Please Spay & Neuter Your Pets!
According to the ASPCA, approximately 5 to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, and approximately 3 to 4 million are euthanized (60% percent of the dogs and 70% of the cats). Of these animals, only 10% have been spayed or neutered.
In addition to the companion animals that end up in shelters, it is impossible to determine how many stray dogs and cats live in the United States that never make it to shelters. Estimates for cats alone range up to 70 million.
A single cat can have 1 to 2 litters per year with 4 to 6 kittens per litter. Dogs typically can have 1 litter of 4 to 6 puppies per year. Please remember that the cost of spaying or neutering an animal is less than the cost of raising puppies or kittens for a year.
Animal Lifeline works in collaboration with area veterinarians, shelters, rescues and clinics to provide low cost spay and neuter resources for low-income clients and feral cats. Our dedicated thrift store volunteers work tirelessly to finance this initiative to create humane solutions for the animals in our community.
